Surprisingly, there isn't a whole lot in print on Kibbutz life. This is a relatively scholarly, though quite readable, discussion of the transformation of the kibbutz in the wake of the Israeli economic crisis of 1985. It's actually a digest of studies conducted in the early 90s led by Ben-Rafael, a sociologist at Tel Aviv University. Includes a statistical abstract and a comprehensive kiibbutz bibliography.  (ISR25, $22.95)
