An even-handed, up-to-date history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Harris, a professor at Ben-Gurion University, starts at the beginning of Zionist immigration and covers the political and military history of the conflict to the present day. He's considered a "revisionist" historian in Israel because of his views on the 1948 War of Independence (citing Israel's strategic superiority in that war, and its tacit support for 'transfer' of Arabs out of Palestine); but for the reader without preconcieved notions this is probably the best, most even-handed history of the conflict.  (ISR31, $40.00)
