In May of 1919, Sir Arthur Eddington led a team to the Gulf of Guinea and Sobral, Brazil to observe the bending of starlight by the sun during the eclipse -- as predicted by Einstein's theory. The success of the experiment immediately propelled Einstein onto the front pages of newspapers around the world.
