Grounded in the historical record, Armstrong (who has also written a "A History of God : The 4000-Year Quest of Judaism, Christianity and Islam), offers a well considered, illuminating account of the prophet and founder of Islam. It's a good portrait of early seventh-century Arabia and an excellent foundation for understanding the current tensions in the Middle East.  (ARB09, $15.00)
