Originally published in 1916, this wonderful story is about a 9-year-old orphaned girl who goes to live with her cousins on a Vermont farm. In learning such earthy tasks as how to churn butter, she gains confidence and a sense of self. Fisher does a wonderful job of capturing the conflicts and emotions of childhood.
