Berenice Abbott's 420 black-and-white photographs of New York City comprise one of the finest extant pictorial records of the architecture of pre-WWII New York. Commissioned by the Works Progress Administration, Abbott did for New York what Walker Evans did for southern migrants in "Let Us Now Praise Famous Men."
