A poignant account of the author's discovery of polar explorer Matthew Henson, travels in Greenland to meet Henson's Eskimo descendants -- and his successful quest for recognition of his formidable accomplishments. Barely acknowledged in his day, it was Henson who knew how to make the sleds, hunt for food, and speak the Eskimo tongue. Originally published in 1988. The author, a professor at Harvard, was instrumental creating a monument to Henson at Arlington National Cemetery and in the designation of a U.S. navy vessel with his name.  (ARC114, $14.95)
