In this highly readable book the well-regarded Muslim scholar tackles the question of Why do they hate us? Esposito chronicles of the nature and history of extremist groups in many forms throughout the Muslim world. He ends with a call for greater understanding, emphasizing very reasonably that most Muslims (including religious leaders) are appalled by the acts of violence in the name of Islam. Unlike some scholars (and policy makers) Esposito does not see an invetible clash of civilizations between the West and the Muslim World.  (ISL22, $26.00)
