This is a classic example of mystic Sufi verse, stunningly translated into English by Akham Darbandi and Dick Davis. Attar's masterpiece, which is sometimes called "The Parliament of Fowls," has had tremendous influence on the West, and was adapted into a fine English poem by Chaucer in the late 14th century.
