The Last Voyage of the Karluk, A Survivor's Memoir of Arctic Disaster

The Last Voyage of the Karluk, A Survivor's Memoir of Arctic Disaster
William McKinlay
EXPLORATION •  1976 •  PAPER  • 192 PAGES

An eyewitness account of the tragic expedition, which McKinlay published after decades of research. He devoted his long life to setting straight the record of the forgotten expedition, along with clearing the name of Bob Bartlett, his hero and captain of the Karluk. While McKinlay was not completely forthcoming on the subject of Stefansson (for that see the book by Jennifer Niven), it's clear that he held the charismatic and scene-stealing explorer and leader of the expedition in low regard.  (ARC131, $12.95)
