The beautifully illustrated and narrated story of the birth of an Emperor chick, parents' odyssey to find and bring food, and raise its young in the deep winter of Antarctica. Although it is recommended for ages 5-9 (which is accurate), younger children (and their parents) will enjoy it too. A colleague offered her four-year-old twins as very satisfied and impressed readers.
