This is a recently published monograph by an associate professor of cultural anthropology at International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan, who has written on a variety of topics including transformations of wedding and funeral practices, local politics, commerce and entrepreneurship. Based on both field work in northern Vietnam and archival materials, the study looks at the impact of the revolutionary campaign to transform Vietnamese society.
