In the first of the popular Jonathan Argyll art mysteries, English doctoral candidate Argyll, "an amiable soul prone to tripping over his shoelaces," is arrested for vagrancy when he's found in a small church near Campo dei Fiori after hours. He's there to confirm that the painting that's long hung over the altar is a previously unidentified Raphael -- a career-making discovery, if true.
