A reproduction of the Peabody Museum facsimile (first published in 1902), featuring 86 full-color plates depicting the life of the great Mixtec lord 8-Deer. One of the best-known pre-Conquest manuscripts, it covers the period from 992-1050 in the lives of the Teozacoalco and Tilantongo of western Oaxaca. The original (said to have been sent to King Charles V by Cortes in 1519) is on animal skin-folds painted on both sides.  (MEX159, $22.95)
