The Hummingbird's Daughter brings to powerful life the grit, poverty and culture of the 19th-century American Southwest. Urrea bases his novel on the life of Teresita, the Saint of Cabora, born on a ranch in 1878 on the Arizona-Mexico border (she's also his great aunt). Winner of the Kiriyama Prize.
