A contemporary of Charles Darwin (and co-author of the paper on the theory of evolution through natural selection at the Linnean Society on in July 1, 1858), Wallace like Darwin was struck by the variation of species on islands around the world. "Island Life" is Wallace's popular account of the natural history of island groups first published in 1881.
