Written by a retired Anglican Priest, this illustrated pocket guide and companion covers the history and background of the play, including a scene by scene description with relevant Bible readings, travel information on Oberammergau and places of interest, practical travel tips, brief language guide, maps and a street plan. With a color sections and black and white photographs throughout. Michael Counsell has visited the play several times, and in 1990 and 2000 ran the English-language Church Welcome Centre there. In 2000 he was there for the whole season, and wrote the first edition of this book. This new edition is updated for the performances in 2010.
